The top three Seiko birth year watches

  • The top three Seiko birth year watches

When it comes to luxury watches, Japanese manufacturer Seiko is one of the most respected and sought after watchmakers in the world. Since its humble beginnings in a small Tokyo shop back in 1881, the company has grown to be a global brand that exudes quality and luxury.

As one of the world’s leading watchmakers, their extensive range is full of beautifully crafted timepieces. Coupled with a reputation for producing durable, precise and incredibly stylish watches that can last many years, they make a great choice for those men seeking a high-quality birth year watch.

If you’re looking for a birth year watch, we’ve taken a closer look at three of our favorite Seiko pieces:

Seiko 6138-0040 "Bullhead"

The “Bullhead” is an incredibly popular design and is part of the Seiko 5 collection. Launched in 1969, it features five key features;

Automatic winding

Single window day and date display

Fully water-resistant

Recessed Crown

Highly durable

Two languages Spanish & English or English & Kanji

Despite the high quality, the Bullhead 6138-0040 was one of the more affordable options and was specifically designed for younger customers who wanted to look stylish. Since its launch, however, it has become one of the most sought after watches on the market.

It gets its name from the distinctive setting of the pushers at 12 o’clock, which is said to resemble the horns of a bull. Coming in two colors, brown and black, the gorgeous contemporary design has made it somewhat of a cult classic and it still looks as good today as it did on its release.

Seiko 6138-0011 "UFO"

The Seiko 6138-0011 was first unveiled in 1971 and has featured in countless movies including the likes of Bicentennial Man as well as TV adverts and shows around the world. It gets the UFO nickname thanks to the futuristic case which is said to resemble a flying saucer.

It was only on sale for a short time, disappearing from the Seiko range in 1979; helping the watch to now become a popular piece for vintage collectors. The watch itself is a very durable and tough timepiece that is certain to stand the test of time.

The waterproof casing houses the usual high-quality Seiko timekeeping system and the UFO features the famous Suwa Seikosha sign on the 3 o’clock. The dial is black, with all sub-dials coming in a gorgeous silver, and the rest of the watch is a colorful and striking design with the outer rim coming in either orange or red.

Seiko 6138-8020 "Panda"

On sale for around ten years, between 1969 and 1979, the Panda is one of the most iconic Seiko vintage watches – with no watch collection complete without one. It was the company’s first fully integrated two-register automatic watch and came with a column wheel and vertical clutch.

Nicknamed the panda thanks to its distinctive black and white dial and sub-dial design – which many said resembles the animal. However, the dial is not actually white, instead, it is a very pale silver, giving it an in-depth and textured finish.

The unique and sporty watch features quite a slim design and looks great with a wide choice of outfits, from formal to casual.

Whether you are looking for the perfect birth year watch, or you just want to add a stylish vintage watch to your collection, the Seiko timepieces are some of the most reliable, affordable and truly beautiful watches on the market.
